PiBoIdMo 2010

November 1st, 2010

I have decided to do this nutty challenge again! Along with my NaNoWriMo novel! PiBoIdMo stands for Picture Book Idea Month and is the brain child of Tara Lazar along the lines of National Novel Writing Month the idea is to produce an idea a day for a children’s picture book.

I completed both challenges last year – a full list of my idea titles are avalible here. To be honest the initial idea is not hard for me so like last year I am going to start by listing the titles for you and then expanding them. I will probably sit down later today and write the whole list as once I’m in brain storming mode there is not stopping me!

I’ve decided though that I will put them out in batches of ten to save the tedium for you guys (assuming anyone’s reading this!).

The Little Book of Spoogy Poetry Mk 2

October 26th, 2010

Well here you go!

The Little Book of Spoogy Poetry Mk2

My colour printer wasn’t working and after sorting out illustrations I just couldn’t cope with even shrinking it down to the A5 it is supposed to be :/ So I decided to make it a project for my little girl instead 🙂

I printed the front cover in black and white and mounted it onto purple mounting card (card slightly bigger than A4, I then just printed the poems in a large bold slightly gothic looking script I thought kids could still read easily.

Before Jean got to the Little Book of Spoogy

I then bound it with ribbon and gave it to my five year old to decorate and make look spooky!

Pumpkins and Bats A story about a little black cat Skeletons and Mummys

Happy Halloween!

Not going to publish Spoogy this year

October 19th, 2010

Ok so it basically isn’t going to happen this year – it is far too late to be publishing stuff for Halloween and I have only just finished sorting the illustrations and sorting out corrections. This leaves no time for proper formatting and what have you.

I also still need to sort out weather to go for Lulu or say a local printers and set up cost is beyond me at the moment – hopefully I will have a different story at the end of December about the Festive Book of Poetry but I some how doubt it. Any way what I am planning is to print a version at home for my little girl.

Here I go!

Illustrator Woes

October 12th, 2010

I am finding saving in Illustrator a no go and am having to export the files or loose the work 🙁 This is making things a little bit tricky but I am getting there with the illustrations for the Little Book of Spoogy Poetry. I am about half way there.

Also I am awaiting the finial check on poetry for spellings etc…

Dino-Pop

October 5th, 2010

September’s Art Evolved paleo-art was based on dinosaurs in popular culture – I submitted not a drawing or model but a cake (late) and even later than that the dinosaur costume me and my mother made for my little girl. They are up in the gallery – you have to scroll somewhat (due to them being so late!) but they are there!

For those of you who don’t know I am Sarah Snell-Pym.

Getting ISBN Numbers

September 28th, 2010

Well I did an internet search and the first hit I made was telling me I could have one ISBN for £8 which didn’t seem quiet right so I did some more google-fu and found the company that issues ISBNs in the UK. They say that it is not possible to buy just one – which is fine as I have more than one thing that will need an ISBN.

You buy them in bundles the smallest of which is 10 at just over £100 for about £200 you can get 100 numbers. So then I’m thinking I don’t have £100 to spend right now but how much more difficult will it be to save up £200?

Can I see a use for 100 ISBNs?

Honestly yes I can but only if I am willing to say ‘donate’ some to my husbands games and speculative fiction pub. business! This needs going into as there are three role playing games there waiting to be published but I don’t know if they need ISBNs. Computer games don’t have them and I’m assuming board games don’t but there is also work a foot to have world building novelettes backing up the board and video games.

I myself could easily use up ten numbers – there are the Little Books of Poetry plus a poetry collection that is non-children that I am working on. Plus any board books I get going with!

I am now going to go and have a little looky at the pint on demand places to see how ISBN works with them as I can see there is huge scope for reselling the numbers if you can buy in bulk, just over £500 gets you like 1000!

However I’m not sure how the selling would effect your works entry into the ISBN data base which is one of the reasons I wanted to hunt down the source!

The Door That Wanted to Be a Musical Instrument

September 23rd, 2010

Ok this is basically going to be in the ‘Brave Little Toaster’ genre of book – the wants to be a musical instrument and almost gets there when the winds blows and it slams. It has a breif bit of happy-ness when children appear in the house and bang it continually but they grow up 🙁

House get’s refurbished maybe by one of the grown up kids – door thinks it’s junk – put in the skip but rescued and turned into a various things like a crude xylophone type instrument and an out doors wind chime etc…

Hetty Peglar Revisited

September 21st, 2010

As well as trying to reconstruct the Little Book of Spoogy Poetry for my little girl I really want to get all the Hetty Peglar stories edited and typed up – I am not looking at getting them up to publication standards this year as I don’t think it’s realistic especially as I’m pregnant and pregnancy has this nasty side effect on my joints so I only have so much pain free time to do things like typing and drawing each day.

However I do really want to read the stories to my little girl over the half term break in the run up to Halloween 🙂
